Flucos win opener

The Flying Fluco football team opened its 2017 season tonight (Aug. 25)  with a tense 14-12 win over the visiting Bluestone High Barons.

The first half was scoreless. The Flucos defense hung tough, holding on downs three times deep in their own territory, after Fluco turnovers. In the second half, Bluestone scored twice. Once on a stolen ball from a Fluco runner, and once on a mere twenty-yard drive after another turnover.

They went for two-point conversions both times and the Fluco defense held on each Bluestone attempt.  The Flucos scored two touchdowns in the second half, as well. Both touchdowns came on short passes from Ethan Graves to tight end Joey Vandyke. After each touchdown, Graves successfully kicked the extra point. The Flucos' second score came with 5:46 left in the game.

The Barons had two more possessions, but one was stopped as Fluco defensive back Ryan Tyree made an interception. The final Baron possession ended on a fourth down incompletion with only seconds remaining.
