Megan Harlow of Oldfields Photography had an idea to raise money for the Diver’s family, whose daughter is fighting a rare form of cancer. Why not have a bunch of mini- photo sessions and donate 100% of the proceeds to Alyssa’s family?
“I went to my friend Brook Robinson of Brook Robinson Photography to ask for her help, and from there we kept coming up with more and more ideas for this event,” said Harlow.
“Before we knew it, we had created a full-fledged fundraiser that would be more than I ever dreamed of. I created an event on Facebook and the community came together. The offers for help poured in and I am still in shock at how many people are willing to help.”
Alyssa Divers has a rare form of bone cancer known as a osteosarcoma. She has been battling cancer for over one year and the struggle to survive has been a long and difficult one.
Her final chemo therapy was administered May 14, but before Alyssa could be released, a local recurrence at the original tumor site was discovered. Her family is currently in Texas, where Alyssa is receiving treatment. On June 15, Alyssa went into surgery to have her leg amputated in the hopes that this will stop any further tumors.
The Live Alyssa Live fundraiser will be held July 15, at Pleasant Grove on Rt. 53 from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. There will be a band, disc jockey, bounce house, face painting, food, a raffle and silent auction with awesome prizes. Also, there will be Live Alyssa Live t-shirts and bracelets for sale, and much more.
“This will be such a fun event and a great way to show Alyssa that the people in her community love her very much and are here for her family,” said Harlow.
