The Third Annual Fluvanna Festival of the Word, a celebration of Fluvanna County High School's 2012 Literary Magazine, will be held today, Wednesday, May 16, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 p.m. at the Fluvanna County Public Library.
The festival will feature readings of prose and poetry by contributors to the school's 2012 Literary Magazine. The Literary Magazine is a student-run publication that provides dozens of students with the opportunity to see their original writing published in a four-color magazine.
Juniors Krista Petzold, Acacia Rodgers, and Jess Horn edited the magazine in Elizabeth Pellicane's Journalism class. “They have spent a lot of hours making sure that the magazine reflects the talents of many FCHS student writers and artists,” said Pellicane.
The magazine also features original artwork from students in the art classes of Diane Greenwood and Michelle Coleman. As in previous years, the production of the magazine was funded by a generous donation by the Fluvanna Education Foundation.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for many gifted and creative students to be published,” said Pellicane. The event will end early enough that attendees can then attend the Board of Supervisors meeting.
