02 May 2012
One of the most exciting events of the year that was scheduled for May 16 has been cancelled. The tournament that was scheduled is the Chamber of Commerce fund raising tournament. The event failed to get the response that was expected due to other tournaments that were scheduled during May. There are two other events scheduled during this time frame. So sorry that the $10,000 hole in one event is not to be. Maybe later in the year when there aren’t so many events on tap.
However there is the Lions club tournament that is scheduled on May 12 that needs the support of the community. Come out and enjoy the camaraderie as they are a great bunch of guys and need your support.
The Youth Development Foundation program gets underway in May also and information on participation is available at the Lake Monticello pro shop. The phone number is 589-3075. The program is designed to give all our children the opportunity to learn the game of a life time as well as develop future stars through the skills portion of the program.
As The Founder of the Gray Foxes I read with great interest the story of the 26th year of this great program. Missing was the great friendships that were made during our great interclub matches with Farmington CC, Brandemill in Richmond, Waynesboro, and Staunton. Come on guys, let us try to recreate and bring back that program. I have not played with the Foxes in recent years due to physical problems, after all, I’m only 94 years young going on my anniversary of my 30th birthday. I am still willing to help when I can.
The return of our golf course at Lake Monticello to its glory days is coming along beautifully and is helping me to looking forward to working hard at getting back in shape to enjoy the game again.
Stay active and don’t vegetate.
