Ninth annual Timo’s Memorial 5K Run/Walk held at Pleasant Grove

The Saturday of Father’s Day weekend is now the date for the Timo’s Memorial 5K. The ninth annual running of this event took place on June 15 at Pleasant The race is off. Grove. A lot of rain in the days before the race made the course “wonderfully challenging” according to race organizer Angell Husted. On race day the conditions were near perfect, with a temperature around 70 degrees and reasonable humidity.

PVCC to offer classes in Fluvanna

Taking courses to improve your knowledge of anything from cooking to Microsoft Office may get easier for Fluvanna residents in the coming year.

“PVCC has a wealth of courses, and Fluvanna – of course – has classrooms, which is one thing that PVCC lacks,” said Dean of Workforce Development for PVCC Valerie Palamountain to the Fluvanna County School Board on Wednesday (June 13). “You have the classrooms, and we have the courses, how can we put these together?”

Rivanna Conservation gets $6,000 to monitor water quality

The Rivanna Conservation Society (RCS) has received a grant from the BAMA Works Fund to create a water quality monitoring network of citizen scientists throughout the watershed, according to Robbi Savage its executive director.

Local Catches at Roy Hobbs World Series

Former Board of Supervisor member Tom Payne never thought he’d play baseball again let alone catch in a World Series game.
But that is how Payne, 70, spent part of his November – at Jet Blue Stadium in Fort Meyers, Fla. catching for the Tri-Cities team in the Roy Hobbs World Series. Hobbs is adult amateur recreation baseball with teams across the United States.

Better Rating for Lake Monticello Fire Co.

The Insurance Services Office just upgraded its rating for the Lake Monticello’s Volunteer Fire Department and that’s good news for people served by the department.
LMVF Chief Scott Carpenter said homeowner’s insurance premiums could go down by as much as $100 because of the new ISO rating.

Over 20 agencies ask supervisors for money

More than 20 agencies sent representatives to plead their funding case to the Board of Supervisors which met on Wednesday (Feb. 27) evening.
Last year the Board surprised most when it decided to cut funding to several key agencies altogether: Jefferson Area Board on Aging, Piedmont Virginia Community College, Piedmont Workforce Network, Offender Aid and Restoration and JAUNT.
