Two men have been arrested by Virginia State Police on multiple drug charges in Fluvanna County, according to the Virginia state police.
Floyd J. Suddarth, 65, of Fluvanna, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, conspiracy to manufacture marijuana, conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm and marijuana, according to a state police press release issued today (Nov. 26) .
David C. Ragland, Jr., 64, of Schuyler in Nelson County, is also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, conspiracy to manufacture marijuana and conspiracy to possess marijuana, according to the release.
Both men are being held at the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange.
The men were arrested following a Sept. 21 tip to state police from a concerned citizen about the discovery of marijuana plants growing in a field off Kidds Dairy Road in Fluvanna County. Trooper A.P. Clore and two special agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation recovered 110 marijuana plants approximately 10 feet to 12 feet in height worth an estimated street value of $330,000.00.
Further investigation led to the arrests of Suddarth and Ragland on Oct. 2. Search warrants executed at both men’s residence yielded 172 pounds of marijuana, approximately $14,000 in cash, and approximately 41 weapons. The 172 pounds of marijuana has an estimated street value of $602,000, according to the press release. More charges are pending in Nelson County as the investigation continues.
The arrests and investigation were conducted in a joint effort with the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police G.I.A.N.T. (Governor’s Initiative Against Narcotics Trafficking). -- Carlos Santos
