They did it again, Bak N' Da Day wowed the near sell-out audience once again at Carysbrook Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 24. The ensemble of five men croon in tight harmony with unforgettable songs made popular by The Platters, The Esquires, The Commodores, The Temptations and more.
Dressed in sleek pale gray double breasted suits with striped silk ties and white leisure shoes, they boogied and shuffled in smooth, fluid seamless rhythm, every move perfectly synchronized like a well tuned Swiss watch. They bring back not only the memories but the style that made these groups the trendsetters in music.
Each soloist sang with soul in emotionally charged performances, particularly Jeff Goode, who came down and sang to members of the audience. Later he boogie-woogied with another audience member, and afterward out of breath, he quipped, “She can dance.” This no doubt delighted the audience member. The audience is never passive during a Bak N'Da Day performance.
“In A Moment,” featured some electrifying scatting and doo-wop in the round. From Philadelphia's The Esquires to Chicago's The Impressions, they swung and swayed, snapped their fingers and had the audience doing the same. They ended the first set with the classic Drifter's song, “There Goes My Baby,” and The Platters, “Only You.”
The second set opened with them dressed in shiny white suits and pastel blue T-shirts kicking the performance into high gear with the Motown Sound of The Temptations “Look Out Here I Come,” while the audience hooted and hollered. Just when you thought they reached their peak, they pushed it high and strong in “Money, Money, Money.”
These vocalists have been together for 10 years and their slick flowing routine gets better each time. No doubt we have not seen the last of tenor first tenor Larry Everette and Larry Jones, second tenor, Jeffrey Goode, baritone, Anthony Harris and bass and co-founder Russell Bennett.
