Back to Back Calls For Fire and Rescue

On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 29, units from Palmyra and Lake Monticello Fire and Lake Monticello Rescue were sent to Union Mills Road (Rt. 616) in the area of the SPCA and Salem Church Road for an accident with reported entrapment.  Fire arrived on scene to find one vehicle on its top with the patient out of the vehicle. The patient was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center. As the fire crew was clearing up the scene on Rt. 616, another call came in. This time a report of a house struck by lighting/on fire with an elderly person in a wheelchair possibly trapped came across the radio for Keys Mills Lane off of Rt. 659 in the area of Columbia School.  Fire units from all four fire companies and another ambulance from the Lake Monticello Rescue Squad were sent to that location.  An EMT from Kents Store Rescue first responded and reported that the occupants of the house were out and that their was no visible smoke or fire showing. Kents Store Fire arrived on the scene and found that the attic area of the house had been struck by lighting with some attic insulation smoldering but no sign of fire.  The Kents Store and Palmyra fire companies remained on the scene and cleared the house of smoke and check the attic to make sure their was no signs of fire in the walls.
